Cizhou Kiln

Cizhou Kiln was a famous non-governmental kiln in northern China of the Song and Yuan dynasties, it was located at Guantai and Pengcheng townships, Cixian county in Hebei province. It was established in the first year of the Northern Song dynasty and lasted for 400 years. Main products were white porcelain, black porcelain, and black-and-white color porcelain. The decoration techniques were mainly painted decoration, incised design, sgraffito, and incised design on pearl background. Main decorations were floral design, design of dragon, phoenix, fish, weed and figure, especially famous for design of poetry and prose. These designswere vivid and simple with full of local flavor. Main produced wares were bowl, plate, basin, jar, lian, pillow etc. In the Yuan dynasty, the porcelains were mainly black-and-white color underglaze painting, brown painting, green glaze and under-glaze black painting, big size wares were increased, but the quality was not as good as of the Song dynasty.
